Let's Celebrate!

For this week's Seize the Birthday challenge the theme was animals. A week ago I created this card for a friend of mine as we were celebrating her birthday. I thought this would fit the theme just perfect.

Here is what the card looks like:

I used the little cats from the Simon Says Stamp Party Time stamp set and then I fussy cut the little hats from the Avery Elle Hipster-Potamus stamp set. I colored the hats in with copic markers and then add some clear wink of stella on top to add some sparkle. The "Let's Celebrate" sentiment is from the Simon Says Stamp monthly card kit, which I believe you can purchase separately as well.

Thanks for stopping by!

Trying something different

This week I just wanted to try something different. This afternoon while watching you-tube, I decided to try a new technique, something I still think I need to perfect, but I was very happy with the outcome.
I used one of the older stamp sets from Lawn Fawn, called Flutter, I really love the flowers in that set and I think they are great to use for watercolor/distress coloring. I heat-embossed the flowers first with White Zing embossing powder (on water color paper) and then I colored them in with distress inks and water.

After my flowers and leaves were done, I was playing around with the placement of the 4 flowers and leaves and then all of a sudden I layered in circle pattern and they ended up looking like an even bigger flower to me. Sometimes it's funny how ideas just come together. I took a scrap piece of patterned paper I had lying around and stamped "Happy Birthday" on it, cut it to make it look like a little banner and layered everything together. For a finishing tough I decided to use the new Bermuda Blue sequins from Pretty Pink Posh as well as some 4mm, I believe marshmallow sequins.

Here is how my card came out:

Hope you all have a wonderful new week, don't forget to leave a comment if you like what you see!

Tag You're It Challenge!

I have been making a lot of tags since the weekend, there is just something I enjoy about making them. I think I will need more tag dies in the future just to mix it up.
I decided to take part in this week's Tag You're It Challenge. Here is what this week's challenge look like:

A set of tags

I just love the simplicity of tags. They are so easy to use and they brighten up just the simplest box or gift. I made some to give away this past week, here is what I came up with:

Hope you all have a wonderful Saturday!!

CAS 147: Wedding

I decided to take part in the weeks CASology challenge. The theme was wedding. It was actually my first wedding card I have ever made and it was not as easy as I thought it would be. At first I embossed the little heart stamp, but I was not happy with the outcome. So I stamped the little heart stamp in Delicata Gold Ink and then fussy cut them out. I added a little foam dot sticker to the back and I love the way it came out. The "failed" embossing even leaves a little 3D effect.

Superhero Birthday

Who doesn't love mail days? Especially when they are filled with lots of new crafty goodness; that also means lot of playtime with the new goodies.

I just love the little superhero boy from My Favorite Things. I will definitely be creating a lot of stuff with him. Here is the card I came up with last night.

FM198 Up and Away!

It's time for my take on the Friday Mashup! This is also the first time I am taking part in this challenge, can you tell I have been taking part in a lot of challenges lately? I just love them, cause when I am stumped with what to make they are a great way to push your creativity.
When I first saw this post, I really liked the idea, in the end I forgot my background, but I made the mashup my own and that's another thing I love about challenges as well! I am also working on using up my scraps of paper (I know who am I kidding right?) and that it yet another thing I love to use challenges for!

Here is my take on the challenge:

Hope you all enjoy the rest of your Sunday and don't forget the Oscars tonight!

Freshly Made Sketch 174

This week's Freshly Made Sketch seemed pretty simple, a little too simple for me that I think I actually ended up thinking about it way too much. Have you ever have that happen to you? It did all work out in the end, but I can't say that I am 100% satisfied with the way my card came out. I guess they all can't be perfect.

Here is the sketch:

And here is what I came up with:

Some of the products used:

  • Lawn Fawn Monster Mash Stamps & Dies
  • Tim Holtz Distress Ink: Antique Linen & Worn Lipstick
  • Sizzix Circular Dies

Retrosketches #153

I normally don't get to do a lot of crafting during the week, mostly due to work and sometimes when I get home all I want to do is unwind. Since I had an extra long weekend, I was able to catch up on some card making (I still want to do so much more) and I decided to take part in this weeks Retro Sketches Challenge.

Here is the sketch we had to use:

Hope you have a great Friday, thanks for stopping by!!

Viva La Verve Week 2

Hey Peeps!
Here I am again with another challenge card, this time it's for Viva La Verve's Week 2 Challenge for the month of February. This is my first time taking part in one of their challenges.

I had a lot of fun putting together this card. At first I just wanted to go with the yellow background, but I thought the flower didn't stand out enough if I did it that way. I looked around in my stash to find something that would match all the colors I was working with and found a not too bold piece of paper with the chevron pattern. All the elements worked well together. I love playing around with different types of paper and it's also a great way to clean up your stash as well.

Here is how my card turned out:

Who else is happy that tomorrow is Friday??

A (midweek) Birthday Card

Since it's a long weekend for me, I decided to get busy today and make some birthday cards, since I am waaay behind. I got the idea for my card from a youtube video by Kristina Werner (whom I absolutely LOVE) It is one of her older video's but I just loved the idea of this card!(Blog post can be found here) I am trying to make due with the stamps and dies I have for now. I need to make better use of the stuff I have instead of just collecting items and forgetting about them.

Here is my take on the card:

Hope you have a wonderful Wednesday!!

A Little Friday Project!!

Hey Everyone, are you all just excited like me that it's FRIDAY again?
Of course Friday calls for some crafting time! I have been wanting to get some crafting in this whole week, but was not able too, just too tired after work to get out all my scrap goodies.

While I was browsing my emails I came across a blog post at Neat and Tangled. I really liked the idea Taheerah came up with and I decided to try almost the same thing tonight. I had to do the front of the card a few times since I messed up with the water coloring and it just wasn't turning out just right, the first time my paper ripped too! I did add my colors to the paper first, then die-cut the hearts and then added some drops of water for a little more effect. As a final addition to the card I added some peach colored sequins.

Here is how my card turned out:

I hope you enjoyed my little Friday Project! Have a great weekend!!

RIC #76: Carven

I am back this weekend with a new Runway Inspired Challenge. I kind of had problems deciding what exactly I wanted to do with my card. I looked at the image many times. I knew I wanted to do something with yellow and black, those were the colors that popped out at me the most. I went to my paper stash for more inspiration and found a paper pad a 6x6 pad named "Glitz". The first page I opened was the yellow and I knew that had to be my background....I guess you can kind of say the rest was history, after that one thing lead to another and the card came together!

Here is the image we had to create a card from:

Here is what I came up with:
(the streaks look greenish in the image, but they are yellow in real life)

Week 129: NBUS

I decided to take part in this week's CAS-ology card challenge. It seemed like a fun thing to do and since my goal this year is to get better at cardmaking, I thought why not? This week's challenge was titled NBUS. NBUS stands for "Never Been Used Schtuff"  That is, things in our stashes that we've never, ever used!

Here is what I cam up with for the challenge:

I ended up using items from Simon Says Stamp January Card Kit, since I hadn't had time to play around with the kit yet, this was a perfect opportunity to put it to good use.

While I am at it, I will also be adding this to the NBUS challenge #3 as well.

RIC #75: Ralph Lauren

After being away for a little while and on vacation in Miami, it's time to jump back on the card-making bandwagon! For this week's Runway Inspired challenge here is what we had to get inspiration from:
